How to lighten your skin is a question that can be answered in many ways, so where do we begin? Well the simple answer, is that we will begin at the beginning! There are many things that cause you to get darker, and the biggest one of those is exposure to the sun.
Maybe you were born with dark skin or you just want to lighten your complexion. Whatever the reason, the first thing that you want to do is protect yourself.
You do need the sun, you body uses the natural sunlight to naturally produce vitamin D, but you don’t need a lot of it. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen if you’re going outside for any length of time.
Smoking can also cause your skin to sallow in color and at the same time it can make you look older by adding wrinkles!
So, now you know what to stay away from, it’s time to answer the question, how to lighten your skin. First off, is over the counter creams. There are some very safe creams to use, but they don’t have much of a benefit. Ones containing Retinol are the best to go for.
If you’re not happy with these over the counter products you can also get prescribed products from either your doctor or a dermatologist. Formulas that contain hydroquinone are particularly good because it contains a pigment-inhibiting compound that will lighten the skin. However, you always need to check with your doctor or dermatologist before you use them to see that they are safe.
There are even stronger procedures that might be of some help. This includes laser treatment that produces intense pulsed light and removes layers of damaged skin at very precise levels. It can also fix redness and rosacea if you are suffering of this. However, this procedure should only be carried out by trained professionals and it’s also a good idea to ensure that you check with your doctor and/or dermatologist first.
There are also specialized procedures that can be used. Liquid nitrogen cryotherapy. It can peel brown lesions that come with aging and it is a very specialized procedure.
If you want to lighten large areas of your skin, either monobenzyl or hydroquinone is used to bleach dark skin, but this procedure again should only be used by advised by a medical procedure.
Always make sure you use products that are approved for sale and not cheap products that you find for sale on the internet or in other countries, they can actually darken your skin the long run and also cause other problems like thinning and aging.
The basic rules of having good skin should also be applied wherever possible, e.g. lots of sleep, lots of water, a good diet, no cigarettes and stay out of the sun as much as possible!
These are you basic options for staying out of the sun. We will blog about them in more detail in the future, so make sure you come back and find out more!
